School supplies needed for Backpack program

Once again, Hanover Township is asking the community for donations of school supplies and backpacks for youth returning to school in the fall.

Due to the current economic crisis, food pantry usage has increased dramatically servicing as many as 700 to 1,000 families monthly. The township anticipates the number of children needing school supplies and backpacks to increase as well.

Most needed items include backpacks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, flash drives, blue pens and glue sticks. A donation of gift cards to use for the sole purpose of purchasing school supply items would be greatly appreciated as well as any donation of supplies.

Supplies can be dropped of at township offices, 250 S. Route 59, in Bartlett; the Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park and the Township Community Relations Office at One American Way, in Elgin.

For information or questions regarding a donation, contact the Astor Avenue Community Center at (630) 540-9085.
