Centegra welcomes Pink Heals Fire Truck Tour

Submitted by Centegra Health System

The 2012 Pink Heals Fire Truck Tour will return to Centegra Health System this year, bringing its “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” message to the people of greater McHenry and Kane counties.

Escorted by Guardians of the Ribbon, firemen dressed in pink, a pink fire truck will visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry and 2 to 4 p.m. the same day at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.

The Pink Heals tour travels across the United States to support women and encourage men to join the fight against breast cancer. The goal is to help raise awareness and to increase donations for local charities that contribute to the fight against breast cancer. Pink Heals celebrates the important roles women play in the everyday lives of community members.

Local fire departments will join the day of activities and people who attend can sign the pink fire truck. Centegra will host a pink lemonade stand, and there will be pink T-shirts for sale.

Representatives from the Centegra Sage Cancer Center and the Centegra Gavers Breast Center will be available to provide information about early cancer detection and the state-of-the-art services available at Centegra. The Centegra Health System Foundation will also accept donations to the Centegra Cancer Care Fund.

“We encourage Centegra associates and community members to wear pink and come to show support for the Pink Heals Fire Truck Tour,” said Amy Moerschbaecher, executive director of oncology and medicine services at Centegra Health System.

“It’s an unforgettable day that celebrates courage, community and the strength of women. We get so excited to see our local Emergency Medical Services providers and our employees wearing their pink shirts in support of cancer survivors. We also love to hear amazing stories from the firemen who travel with the truck and from people in the community.”

Whether community members have been affected by cancer or simply want to support women in the region, all are welcome to the free event. For more information about the Pink Heals Fire Truck Tour, visit www.pinkhealsil.org.
