Des Plaines School of Dance offers free dance classes at open house

The Des Plaines School of Dance will host an Open House and day of free dance classes on Saturday, August 25, from 9:45am to 3:30pm at the Leisure Center in the Dance Studio at 2222 Birch Street.

Classes will be divided into five sessions by age: adults will be taught from 9:45-10:45am, dancers ages 3 to 5 from 11-11:45am, dancers ages 6 to 8 from noon to 1 p.m., dancers ages 9 to 12 from 1:15-2:15 p.m., and dancers, age 12 and older from 2:30-3:30pm.

Each class will include instruction in ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop. New and returning dancers to the School of Dance are invited to meet the instructors and sample a variety of dance genre in a relaxed atmosphere.

Parents are encouraged to stay and observe the class, and meet the instructors after each session. Classes are taught by members of the School of Dance staff, an experienced ensemble of working, professional dancers and choreographers, who perform locally and abroad.

The Des Plaines School of Dance offers a well-rounded dance program with over fifty classes in ballet technique, pre-Pointe, Pointe, modern, jazz, Broadway jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and tap. Students are divided by age and ability, and classes are taught in modern studios with specially equipped, injury resistant floors; full-length mirrors; secure barres; and state of the art sound systems. The School has three unique programs: a Tots in Motion program with classes designed for preschool age children; the Performance program, a nine month training course that culminates in a recital; and an A la Carte Program that allows dancers eight years and older, including adults, to cherry pick classes that fit their schedule.

Registration for Fall Dance Classes begins August 20. For more information about the School of Dance Classes, call the dance hotline at 847-391-6924 or visit www.DPParks.org
