Glen Ellyn screenwriter hopes for Sundance Festival

Two years ago Laura Lewis-Barr submitted one of her scripts to a Craigslist ad seeking a low-budget film script. While the Glen Ellyn native was an award winning playwright, she had never worked as a screenwriter. The script, "Cloistered Honey," was a two person comedy with minimal location needs. The producer chose her script and an amazing film making odyssey began. Lewis-Barr began a series of rewrites and then helped with the hunt for Chicago actors willing to work for possible future profits.

The producer had a dream but no real budget. Still, he was able to find locations and a crew who donated their time. The small troupe drove to idyllic and remote Mineral Springs, WI for one week of filming (with one camera). The artists believed in the script but could they possibly produce a viable full length film in a week?

The group worked 12, 14, 16 hours days. There was no time to watch any of the daily footage. Would it work?

The production had been a miracle, each piece had come together but several months after filming the progress stalled. The producer was too busy to finish the film. Another year passed.

Then Lewis-Barr asked for the footage. If it was decent enough, she'd hire an editor and finish the film herself.

Now, two years after her film-making debut, Lewis-Barr and editor Brett Cassel are half-way finished and filled with hope.
