Lake Arlington path as dangerous as ever

Here we go again. The first few days of summer are here and once again the speeding bikers and rollerbladers have taken over the path around Lake Arlington. These speed freaks come dressed complete with helmets and their best Tour de France spandex. Between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. all walkers are put in extreme danger of being rammed into and knocked down.

In the past there were many families with small children and babies in strollers as well as the elderly just enjoying the beauty of the lake with its varied wildlife. Sadly, this is no longer possible, as we all fear of getting injured by these selfish characters who could care less about anyone’s safety.

Why does the park district repaint the 8 mph rule every summer when there is no one to enforce it. The park district superintendent wants all complaints to go to the boathouse. Nothing has been done to patrol the path at least once or twice per evening. How many accidents have to happen before someone pays attention to the raucous behavior of these fearless speed demons?

Enough is enough! We want our Lake Arlington back the way it was intended to be used.
