Wauconda High School graduating senior Michaela England is one winner of this year's Illinois AMVETS Scholarship Program. The Island Lake resident was awarded with a $1,000 one-year scholarship from the Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation out of 1,369 other applicants. Sixteen other graduating high school seniors across Illinois were also awarded the scholarship. The Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation has been awarding scholarships to high school seniors for approximately 40 years. In the past 12 years, the AMVETS Scholarship Program has awarded nearly $2.3 million in scholarships to graduating high school students. England will be attending college this fall.
