Huntley Lacrosse players receive honors

Submitted by Huntley Raiders

As the 13 varsity teams in the Northern Illinois Lacrosse Association league head into postseason play, the Huntley Raiders recently announced that four varsity players are receiving NILAX honors.

Senior Midfielder Frank Recchia and sophomore defenseman Nick Zielinski were named to the “All League” team, a top league distinction that is determined by votes from all 13 coaches in the NILAX league. Senior defenseman Andy Nichols was chosen along with Recchia and Zielinski for the All Conference team, a group selected by the coaches of the four teams in the local conference. Senior attackman Todd Meyer received honorable mention consideration from conference coaches who chose the players for the honors.

The Huntley Raiders varsity team finished third in the NILAX league regular season in 2012 with a 10-4-1 record, and received a bye for the first round of the NILAX playoffs. The Raiders will face off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24 under the lights on the main field at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road. They will play the winner of a Tuesday game between Batavia and Arlington Heights.
