Cable, Internet and phone restored to 17,000 WOW! customers

Service was restored to about 17,000 WOW! cable customers in the Northwest suburbs who were without service for most of Monday after a fiber-optic line was severed.

Officials announced on their Facebook website at 5:30 a.m. that service was restored to customers in Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Glenview at about some point overnight.

However, they did not say exactly when service was back up and running.

Officials said Monday that a major fiber-optic line was cut, causing a “catastrophic outage,” about 11:45 a.m. Monday. The outage could last through Tuesday morning.

The line was cut at a major intersection in Schaumburg, according to the company.

Early Monday afternoon, the company stated that service would be back up and running about 4 or 5 p.m., but that deadline passed without resolve. As of 10 p.m., the company pushed the deadline to “no sooner than midnight,” stating that it was a rough estimate.
