Batavia football to be featured on Channel 5 broadcast

Calling all Bulldogs fans: Gather at Batavia High School Friday morning to show your support for the football team, as NBC5 broadcasts its weekly “Prep Destination of the Week” preview from the school.

Batavia will be featured in the local news broadcast from 5 to 7 a.m.

It was chosen in a Facebook contest among other schools still in the state football playoffs. Batavia, which is hosting Prairie Ridge Saturday, edged out Naperville Central and Wheaton-Warrenville South high schools, which are also hosting games Saturday.

Friday’s broadcast ends at 7 a.m. with the popular “Dance Friday” segment, in which the crowd shows off its boogie moves.

Batavia (12-0), the Upstate Eight River Conference champion, will host its first semifinal playoff game at 1 p.m. The winner advances to the Class 6A state championship Nov. 26 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Fans are encouraged to bring signs and be ready to cheer Friday.

Batavia High School is at 1201 W. Main St.

Kaneland

Meanwhile a bit west of Batavia, Kaneland High School fans have scheduled a pep rally at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to cheer on its football team.

The Knights host Montini at 6 p.m. in Class 5A. The winner will play in Champaign Nov. 26.

Saturday’s pep rally is in the east main gymnasium at the school, Meredith and Keslinger roads in Maple Park.

Aurora Christian

And to the south, the Aurora Christian Eagles host Tolono Unity in a Class 3A semifinal at 5 p.m. Aurora Christian is at 2255 Sullivan Road.

There is no pep rally scheduled.

Saturday’s winner plays Nov. 25 in Champaign.
