Community health expo Thursday in Bartlett

On Sept. 22, from 2-6 p.m., Hanover Township, Cook County Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider and Victory Centre of Bartlett will sponsor the fourth annual “Just for the Health of It” community health and wellness expo at the Hanover Township Senior Center and Victory Centre of Bartlett, both located at the southwest corner of W. Bartlett Road and Route 59 in Bartlett.

Open to the public, residents will be able to take advantage of over a dozen free health screenings for osteoporosis, diabetes, cholesterol and more. Last year, over 700 attendees participated in the expo.

“This event has grown in popularity each year,” said Trish Simon, director of the Hanover Township Office of Community Health. “Our residents have come to rely on this event for their annual screenings and for the chance to talk with health professionals about their well-being.”

This will be the first year the event will be held primarily indoors.

“Last year we had some difficulty with the weather, so this year we decided to move it inside and maximize the use of both facilities,” said Terri Geppner, director of Community Relations for Pathway Senior Living. “Attendees will get a map that shows what buildings will host which screenings, vendors and programs.”

For the fourth straight year, LifeSource will be conducting a blood drive on site. Besides the free screenings, residents will also be able to participate in raffles, free chair massages and receive adjustments to their glasses. A bounce castle and games for kids will also be provided.

Commissioner Tim Schneider, who has represented the Bartlett area for years as a township official and now as the county commissioner, said his office regularly receives inquires about services such as the ones provided at the expo.

“This is a great opportunity for residents of all ages to take advantage of this free event, especially during these tough economic times when a person’s health can be neglected,” said Commissioner Schneider.
