Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars awards money

Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars held its 2011 scholarship reception at Signature Flight Support Hangar 19 in Wheeling.

The two-hour catered gathering focused on the accomplishments of this year’s scholarship recipients.

The $2,000, one-year academic scholarships were awarded to the following 2011 Wheeling High School graduates: Arturo Escobedo, Ryan Himmelblau and Michael Smith. Lindsey Petersen, a 2011 John Hersey High School graduate, was also awarded a $2,000, one-year academic scholarship.

Students awarded a $2,000 one-year academic scholarship for a second year or more are: Danish Husain, a 2010 graduate of John Hersey High School and current Duke University student, and Steven White, a 2007 graduate of Wheeling High School and current senior at University of Illinois at Chicago.

The $2,000 one-year Nick Teramani vocational award recipient was Henry Vu, a 2011 graduate of Wheeling High School.

Edmund Williams, Jr., a 2011 graduate of Wheeling High School, was selected as the recipient of the Charles E. Priester $2,000 four-year renewable scholarship.

The mission of Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is to expand access of post-high school educational opportunities to the residents of Prospect Heights and Wheeling through its scholarship program.

It is a community-based organization supporting students and the encouragement of educational achievement. Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars is a chapter of Scholarship America.

Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars holds two fundraisers annually to support its scholarship program. The annual golf outing will be Friday, Sept. 30, at Old Orchard Country Club in Mount Prospect.

This year, Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars has partnered with the Retired Professional Football Players of Chicago Dollars for Scholars to bring players a rare golf opportunity. Players can register to play a round of golf with a retired NFL player.

The $175 registration fee includes a round of golf, lunch and dinner, and golfing awards. A silent auction and raffles are also featured. Sponsorships are available.
