Beth Judea Sisterhood elects new officers

타 The Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Judea, Long Grove, recently elected the following officers and directors for the years 2011-2013:

Officers: Co-presidents, Debbi Green of Buffalo Grove and Mary Brickman of Mundelein; executive vice president, Bobbi Goldenberg of Arlington Heights; fundraising vice president, Laurie B. Davis of Deerfield; membership vice president, Sherry Krawitz of Buffalo Grove; programming vice president: Wendy Weinger of Buffalo Grove; education vice president, Elizabeth Laden-Gross of Vernon Hills; secretary, Melissa Chudnoff of Vernon Hills; treasurer, Davida Finkle of Buffalo Grove; Torah Fund vice president, Pam Herstein of Buffalo Grove; Parliamentarians, Lauri Rosenbloom of Arlington Heights and Rhonda Cohn of Buffalo Grove.

Directors are: Lori Finn, Phyllis Faber, Karen Nagel, Ann Lerman, Marcia Weissman, Sandy Leavitt, Diane Ganden, Darlene Bikshorn, Sherry Weinberger, Ellen Antman, Laura Zoller, Kenddra Rosen, Kitty Hoffman, Eileen Spiegel, Sandy Goldenberg, Sari London, Karen Bakst and Debra Shub.

Members-at-large: Linda Lippman, Heidi Sakol and Marni Rudick.

The Sisterhood offers religious, social, education and charitable programs for the women of Beth Judea.

Benjamin Menich of Mount Prospect received a $1,500 scholarship toward his postsecondary education from the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl. Menich will attend Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and plans to major in mechanical engineering.

In addition to the monetary grant, Menich also received from industry partner SolidWorks Corporation a copy of its Student Design Kit CAD software package, a Windows-based 3-D CAD application that gives students the ability to create “real-life” 3-D designs they can easily manipulate.

The FMA scholarships are awarded annually to college- or trade school-bound applicants who seek careers in manufacturing. This year, scholarships totaling $30,000 were awarded to 20 winners from across the country.

타 Congratulations to Bartlett resident Jack Hinneberg, who achieved a hole-in-one at Apple Orchard Golf Course, reaching the 110-yard Hole #8 using an eight iron.

Hinneberg stated that Apple Orchard is a great short game Par 3 course. He plays three to four times weekly and boasted that he had an outstanding round, helped of course by the “ace.” Over the years of playing at Apple Orchard, he has had at least three other holes-in-one.

타 The Des Plaines History Center appointed Shari Caine executive director. Caine, who had been serving as interim director, takes over for retired executive director Joy Matthiessen. Matthiessen served as director for 22 years.

Caine has been an employee of the center for 14 years, previously as the archives manager.

The Des Plaines History Center is made up of more than 450 member residents and businesses in the Des Plaines area and is committed to conserving, comprehending and celebrating the past through displays, research assistance, and programs for young and old alike.
