Patriots U12 softball team places second at tourney

The Arlington Heights Patriots fastpitch softball organization participated in the Trevian Tournament in Winnetka with five teams entered; U10, U11, U12 and two U14 teams.

In the end, the U12 team took second place in the upper Red Division and the U14 Red team took second place in the Blue Division.

Both teams, with their wins, have qualified and are eligible to play in the ASA Northern Nationals later this summer.

The U12 Patriots went .500 through pool play, placing them into the bottom of the Red winner’s bracket.

On Father’s Day, they were faced with having to win three games to play in the Championship game, and they did just that.

They beat the Windy City Thunder, the Oswego Wolves and the Mount Prospect Power Black team to go into the Championship game against the New Lennox Lightning.

The final of the championship game was 3-0, with New Lennox taking the win.

“Everyone contributed in each game to get the win,” Team Manager, Tad Slowik said.

Highlights included Emily Carnes repeatedly throwing out runners attempting to steal second base, Sammy Stejskal covering huge territory at shortstop for several outs, and Claire Petrus pitching four solid games all day Sunday for an ERA of 1.9

The U12 team has also qualified to go to USSSA Nationals in Orlando Florida this July.
