Hanover Township Freedom Bash is this weekend

Hanover Township is hosting its seventh annual Operation Support Our Troops: Freedom Bash. Friday and Saturday, June10-11.

The Bash, at the southwest corner of Route 59 and West Bartlett Road in Bartlett, features a car show, a variety of bands, and military equipment and ceremonies.

“Without a doubt, this is our most popular event of the year,” said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire. “The community really steps up with their donations for the troops and it is also a great event for the family with a kids’ play area and live music.”

Admission is free, but people are asked to donate things for the troops, like phone cards, peanut butter, crackers, cereal bars, microwave popcorn and mouthwash.

Friday evening will include a car show cruise night from 5-10 p.m. and performances by the Great Lakes Naval Base Band at 5:30 p.m. and The John Ford Band at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday events include teams competing in the Hogs-N-Hens BBQ Cook Off for trophies in three categories, with judging at 6 p.m.

The Touch-a-Truck event for kids is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with fire engines and police cars. There will be indoor bingo in the afternoon.

Live music is scheduled with “Thadeus Project” at 2 p.m., “David and Goliath” at 3:30 p.m., “Signature” at 4:45 p.m., “Gypsy Fly” at 6 p.m. and “Smokehouse” at 8 p.m.

Military ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday will feature Bartlett VFW Post 11018 and Bartlett American Legion Post 1212, and at noon Saturday will feature Streamwood VFW Post 5151.

Other activities include a beer garden, concession stand, kids play area and VIP tent for veterans and active military.
