Ÿ Long Grove resident Terry Layton, Ph.D., received the Silver Circle Excellence In Teaching Award from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Layton is a visiting professor in the department of Bioengineering at the college.

He joined the UIC staff six years ago and teaches a freshman- and sophomore-level three-course sequence in calculus. His students are mainly science and engineering majors, but some take his courses to fulfill a requirement for a nontechnical major.

Since 1966, the Silver Circle Award has been presented to some of UIC’s best teachers. Winners, who are honored at their college commencements, receive $500 and their names join a long list of distinguished colleagues.

Layton received his award at the commencement ceremony for the College of Engineering on May 7.
