For Big Hollow school board: Kueter, Lancaster, Pedersen

Daily Herald Editorial Board

In the Big Hollow Elementary District 38 school board race, four candidates are vying for three four-year seats. Incumbent Vivian Kueter, an assistant principal in the Rockford district, brings insights from having worked in other school systems and has spearheaded community outreach efforts to keep district residents informed. Challenger Kristina Lancaster says people in the district want to see change, and that change should start at the top when Big Hollow hires a new superintendent. Incumbent Douglas Pedersen, who points out he hasn’t missed a school board meeting in six years, lists cutting the district’s budget deficit as his top issue and suggests dropping a private cleaning service, restructuring current bonds and making limited personnel reductions as options. Incumbent Ken Frank did not return our candidate questionnaire. Jim DeVito is running unopposed for a two-year term. We endorse Kueter, Lancaster and Pedersen for the four-year seats.
