Enjoy pedicure and shoe-decorating party

The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation will host two special pre-events this month to boost awareness for the upcoming second annual “Take a Walk in Her Shoes Ball,” an evening of fashion, footwear and fun, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake.

The first shoe ball pre-event is “Fancy Feet Pedicures” now through Friday, March 11, at Distinction Salon and Spa, 88 Railroad St. in Crystal Lake. Men and women are invited to indulge in a $35 Fancy Feet pedicure and $5 will be donated to the Women in Transition scholarship fund.

The second shoe ball pre-event is a “Fancy Shoes Decorating Party” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. or 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at Distinction Salon and Spa. Cost is $10 per person and reservations are required. Women are invited to decorate their own shoes for the ball while enjoying wine and appetizers with their girlfriends.

Shoes are the inspiration for the event, as they symbolize the steps each of us takes on our own journey, according to Kathrine Pfister, MCC development coordinator. “We took the first step last year in changing the life of a woman in McHenry County who will soon enroll in the class of her life at McHenry County College.”

A returning highlight of the event will be a “Strut Your Stuff” contest, featuring 100 first-come, first-registered contestants showing off their shoes on stage for prizes from five different categories: “Best Boot,” “Pinnacle Pump,” “Sexiest Sandal,” “Funkiest Footwear” and a cross-category “Standout Shoe.”
