Book sale and model trains:

Friends of the Fremont Library host their monthly used book sale 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 14 at the library, 1107 Midlothian Road, Mundelein. The North Central O Gaugers Model Railroaders will run model trains from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Call (847) 918-3247.

Cheer squad for kids with special needs forming:

The Sparkles, a new cheerleading squad for children with special needs in forming in Antioch. The Viking Youth Football and Cheer Association hosts registration for both boys and girls at Antioch Community High School today, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children from ages 5-14 can sign up. Registration is free. The Sparkles begin practice in August and will cheer along with the Viking Cheerleaders at games this fall. For details contact founder and coach Nicole Jones at jones39180@comcast.net. Antioch High School is at 1133 Main St.

Board to talk staffing:

The Stevenson High School District 125 board meets Monday to discuss several staffing changes. Hirings, resignations and dismissals are on the agenda. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the district office at the Lincolnshire campus.

Social media safety:

Are Facebook, Hi5, and MySpace safe for children? How do I know if my child is being bullied online? What is sexting and how prevalent is it? How do I know what my child is doing on the Internet and on cell phones? The Mundelein Police Department will present a seminar for parents on cell phones, Internet safety and social networking at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 15 at the Mundelein High School Library, 1350 W.
