Geneva holiday events to require street closures

The Geneva Police Department announced street closures during the annual Christmas Walk and Holiday House Tour Dec. 1-2.

The Christmas Walk tree lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

The Geneva Police Department and Geneva Emergency Management Agency will shut down Third Street from State Street (Route 38) to South Street at 5 p.m. All intersections along South Third Street also will be closed. Temporary parking restrictions will be enacted at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 in downtown Geneva in preparation for the Christmas Walk.

The police department and Geneva Emergency Management Agency will be present throughout the downtown and assisting festival guests during the evening. A law enforcement drone will be in use to support public safety by providing real-time aerial monitoring for police and emergency management personnel.

The roadways will be reopened to traffic following the conclusion of the Christmas Walk at 10 p.m.

The Geneva Holiday House Tour (tickets required) runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the following homes: 406 S. River Lane; 216 Campbell St.; 585 S. Eighth St.; and two homes located in the Mill Creek subdivision (unincorporated Kane County).

Parking restrictions will be applied to streets surrounding each House Tour destination located within city limits to provide increased safety for pedestrians and necessary clearance for emergency vehicles.
