Mainstreet Gallery celebrates the season with special exhibit

Mainstreet Gallery in downtown Lake Zurich is celebrating the holiday season with a mini painting exhibition featuring 6-inch-by-6-inch paintings for $66.

Local artists have submitted more than 100 small paintings, or "little gems," as Mainstreet Gallery calls them.

"This is a great opportunity for people to find original art at an affordable price from local artists," owner Frankie Johnson said. "There is a wonderful variety of subject matter and medium."

Because there is no theme other than size, the artists have free range to create. Each week, artists are able to submit new paintings, keeping the exhibition changing throughout the season. There has already been a lot of interest from community members in the exhibition and the paintings.

In addition to the small paintings, Mainstreet Gallery is displaying work from local potters, woodworkers, jewelry makers, glass artists and fiber artists. There are handmade soaps, candles, artists bags, artists note cards and fudge.

The exhibition is running throughout November and December. Mainstreet Gallery is at 16 E. Main St. in Lake Zurich.
