Westminster Christian junior takes top prize in national photo competition

Dyllan Kolinen, a junior at Westminster Christian School in Elgin, recently won the National Grand Championship in the "creative" category of the School Photographers of America's National Student Photography Competition.

There were more than 2,300 entries and Dyllan not only won, but also received the highest score ever given to a student in this category.

The Bartlett teen will be receiving a camera kit from Sony, up to a value of $2,000.

Westminster Christian School will be celebrating Dyllan's achievement at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the school gymnasium.

These contests are for students in middle school and high school, perhaps on their yearbook or newspaper staff, who are using photography and/or video to make an impact on their school or wider community.
