Seigle Foundation makes grants to address food insecurity

Seigle Foundation recently announced the total award of $40,000 in grants to two food security organizations, Food for Greater Elgin and Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Julie Yurko, president and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank, shares, "We are incredibly grateful to the Seigle Foundation for their investment in our Mobile Market Program in Kane County. The Foundation's generosity provides nutritious groceries for our communities and helps families who are making tough choices each day to provide meals at home. Together, the Foundation and Food Bank partnership empowers our neighbors with the food and resources they need to thrive!"

Grants are awarded to nonprofits doing work throughout the Elgin/Dundee area, the geographic focus of the foundation.

Seigle Foundation is accepting housing-related grant applications from Oct. 1-Oct. 31, 2023.

The foundation is interested in supporting the provision of shelter for people who need it. Work in this area may include (but is not limited to) shelter for people experiencing homelessness, homeless prevention services, affordable housing, and home ownership for low-income residents.

Housing costs in the area are 39% of income, well above the suggested 30% rate.

There are almost 1,000 homeless students in the local school districts.
