Get creative with Gail Borden Public Library programs this fall

Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is offering a variety of creative art programs this fall.

Programs require registration unless otherwise noted. To register for a program, go to gailborden.info/events, call (847) 429-4597 or register in person at any library branch.

Alebrijes creative workshops for families

Create alebrijes art during the "Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World" exhibit now on display. These programs will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Sally Lee Rooms at the Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Artist Cristina Colunga will guide families in creating unique pieces. All materials will be provided at these bilingual workshops.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, participants can be part of the artistic creation of a community driven Alebrije. Families will learn how to paint and decorate an Alebrije on Sept. 28, then learn how to paint and decorate an Alebrije on a T-shirt on Oct. 12.

The PhD (Projects Half-Done) Club

Are you working on a "PhD" - Project Half Done? Bring your project and join other needlecrafters as we work on unfinished projects together. The session will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin. No registration is necessary to attend.

Crochet Club

Get hooked on crocheting! Bring a project to work on from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, in the Grove Room at the Main Library. Crocheters of all skill levels are welcome.

Preschool ArtSpark

Children, ages 3 to 6, are invited to explore a variety of art materials and focus on the process of creating art rather than the result in this storytime-meets-art program, which will take place from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, in the Sally Lee Rooms at the Main Library.

Alebrijes Art Adventure

Kids in preschool through eighth grade will explore the Mexican folk art creations of the "Alebrijes - Creatures of a Dream World" exhibit and create their own Alebrije. Two sessions in the Main Library Sally Lee Rooms are being offered on Friday, Oct. 20: the first from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and the second from 2 to 2:45 p.m. No registration is necessary.

Rake-O Family Fall Festival

Drop in for a free, fun day of fall-themed games, a family craft, live music and a pumpkin patch from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin. Look for a photo opportunity, Rakow Rangers activities and prizes.
