Bring your pooches to attend walk in Gurnee

Submitted by the Gurnee Park District

On Sunday, Sept. 24, Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, will host a free GO GURNEE Walkin' and Waggin' event.

Families are invited to bring their canine to enjoy a morning walk and wellness event starting at 9 a.m. at the Viking Park Bandshell. Participants and their furry friends will then walk along the Viking Park trail system. Pups will have plenty of time to play before and after the walk.

Dogs in attendance must be well behaved and remain on a leash. Free, pet-friendly GO GURNEE gifts will also be available, while supplies last.

Community members are invited to attend even if they don't have a dog. Reach Rescue will be on-site with a few adoptable friends. Participants are encouraged to bring any pet-friendly donations to support Reach Rescue. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Dog toys

• Paper towels and wet wipes

• Dog leashes (XS-L)

• Dog collars (XS-S)

• Dog treats

• Dry and wet dog food (fish, turkey and lamb)

• Gift cards to pet stores

• Dog beds

• New, rolled blankets

"Last spring, we partnered with Reach Rescue to host our first Walkin' and Waggin' event, bringing about 30 families together for a morning walk. With so much positive feedback, we're proud to continue our efforts, on a seasonal basis," Gurnee Park District's Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Davida Doyle said.

GO GURNEE Walkin' and Waggin's events are recommended for all ages with or without dogs. All GO GURNEE events are free to attend, including the GO GURNEE Walking Club, which meets at various locations on Saturday mornings. For more information, visit gurneeparkdistrict.com.
