Montgomery's St. Olaf Church prepares to celebrate 135th anniversary

St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 1233 Douglas Road in Montgomery, is hosting a 135th anniversary celebration this fall.

Hidden in plain sight since 1970, now surrounded by mature maple trees, just one block north of the bustling Montgomery and Douglas Road's intersection rests our beautiful red brick building with open spaces and ample parking.

All are invited to join the congregation at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, to help celebrate the church's 135th anniversary as they gather to praise God for all the work He has done through the ministry of St Olaf Lutheran Church. It is amazing to think about, but it was 135 years ago that a small group of people gathered together with the desire to plant a church in order to have an impact on their community.

The celebration will include greetings from former pastors and former church leaders in addition to multiple members who have been attending for decades.

The Sons of Norway will make a visit in authentic Norwegian costumes to further celebrate the church's Norwegian heritage with a choir performance.

Enjoy the historical photos and testimonies that will be on display. Come and talk to the people who are the life blood of our church. St. Olaf has gone through many transformations over the last 135 years but the original God-given vision remains, "To know and love God - To know and love people."

Stay for refreshments and fellowship following the service.
