Oak Trace debuts major renovation at the Downers Grove senior living community

With tremendous pride, gratitude, and great anticipation, Oak Trace senior living community held its re-opening ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.

Over a period of three days, Oak Trace welcomed residents, prospective new residents, area dignitaries, referral sources, corporate leadership, and other local professionals to see the beautiful results of the massive renovation of its independent living building. The project, which has been underway for 1½ years, is the second in a three-phase approach completely transforming the senior living community.

The first phase occurred in 2019, when Oak Trace opened its new Health and Wellness Center offering assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and skilled nursing. It has been named among the Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News & World Report for 2022-23 and is a tremendous resource for seniors and their families.

The latest phase, completed last week, features renovated shared spaces of the independent living building.

This includes the Oak Room, a formal restaurant-style dining room with floor-to-ceiling glassed-in wine racks; the Lounge, a casual gathering space offering cocktails and small-plate items; the beautiful, newly furnished library; the outfitted Art Studio, a bright and welcoming lobby, and more.

Oak Trace's $112 million project will culminate in spring 2024 with its independent living expansion. This will feature 140 new luxury independent living apartments, a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatic center, multiple dining venues, a spa, a performing arts center, and more.

"There is nothing comparable to this amazing senior living community anywhere in our area," said Dan Harrington, executive director of Oak Trace. We are so excited, looking towards the beautiful future with our elegant, vibrant senior living community."
