GreenFields of Geneva honors the longest day of the year and supports the Alzheimer's Association

Residents and staff of GreenFields of Geneva joined thousands of people worldwide as they honored the longest day of the year, June 21.

The summer solstice, or the day in which there is the most light, symbolizes the fight against the darkness of Alzheimer's disease. This day is designated as one in which individuals and groups can organize events of their choosing to raise funds to support the Alzheimer's Association.

Residents and staff of the senior living community wore purple, the signature color of the Alzheimer's Association. The organization explains the choice, saying it combines "the calm stability of blue and the passionate energy of red. Purple makes a statement about our Association and our supporters: We are strong and unrelenting in the fight against Alzheimer's disease."

In addition to wearing purple, participants at GreenFields of Geneva walked around the perimeter of GreenFields' beautifully landscaped 26-acre campus.

Purple ribbons were available for a $1 donation, and ice cream for a $2 donation.

The proceeds of about $400 will support the GreenFields of Geneva team in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in September.
