Food and music at the heart of Taste of Highland Park

The city of Highland Park brings a broad lineup of entertainment and restaurants to The Lot, 525 Central Ave., Highland Park, for the Taste of Highland Park, which takes place from 5-10 p.m. Friday, June 23, and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

There will be headlining performances from Yachtley Crew and The Ides of March and 14 premier restaurant vendors. Guests will also enjoy the Bitter Jester Music Festival Grand Finale Concert Sunday, June 25.

On Friday, internationally recognized DJ Madrid kicks off the weekend from 5-7 p.m. spinning a set to lead up to the nation's top yacht rock band, Yachtley Crew, from 7:30-10 p.m.

On Saturday, a full day of music and food will kick off with the jam band ensemble Marcus Rezak Band, featuring Shred is Dead and Gumbo, from noon to 1:30 p.m., roots singer/songwriter Joseph Huber from 2-3:30 p.m., and Grammy-nominated bluegrass musicians Sister Sadie Band from 4-5:30 p.m.

Beatles tribute band American English will take the stage from 6-7:30 p.m., followed by Flannel Folk A Cappella from 7:30-8 p.m., and then Chicago's own rock band The Ides of March, powered by Grammy winner Jim Peterik, gets the crowd dancing from 8:30-10 p.m.

On-site restaurant vendors will bring a variety of food and drink, including Cajun, poke bowls, Mediterranean, vegan/vegetarian, sweet treats, grilled items, pizza, Mexican and more.

Participating restaurants include Bella Ru Catering, BWB Shakes, Cafe Dacha, Jerk N' More Too, Judy's, La Shuk Street Food, Lynfred Winery, Michael's Grill & Salad Bar, Pixca, Poke Burrito, Ravinia Brewing Company, Sugarcoated, and Tamales ... A Mexican Joint.

Libations will be available for those 21 and older.

This year, the fun continues with an additional day of food and entertainment during the Bitter Jester Music Festival Grand Finale Concert from noon to 8 p.m. June 25. Hailed as the Midwest's largest professional "battle-of-the-bands" style concert and competition series, this event will feature the final eight bands (out of 24) and solo performers announced after a series of concerts.

The Grand Finale Concert will feature a variety of food and drinks vendors all day, and a winner will be announced at the end of the evening.

• World Music and Food Fest: Noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 15.

• Vintage Car Show: Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

• Oktoberfest: Noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.

• Fall Vintage Market: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8.

• Stews & Brews (and Blues!): 5-9 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14.
