Aurora man elected highest office in Illinois AMVETS
Steven Holt of Aurora was elected the AMVETS Department of Illinois Commander for the 2023-2024 year. Commander Holt is an Army veteran and an active member of Aurora AMVETS Post 103.
Holt did Basic Training and AIT at Fort Ord in California (now closed). He spent two years behind the Berlin Wall in Germany during his service, before finishing up his service with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell.
Holt has been a part of the AMVETS organization since 2005. He is a life member of Post 103. He has served the Department of Illinois in several leadership roles, most recently as the Department 1st Vice Commander.
In addition to his service, Commander Holt is very active in his community. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 31 years, teaching an EMT course for 12 of those years at a local community college.
This coming year Commander Holt will be traveling throughout the state encouraging veterans to join AMVETS and further its mission of "Veterans Helping Veterans."
The AMVETS Department of Illinois has been an organization of veterans serving veterans since 1945.
Illinois AMVETS has been at the forefront of community and veterans' service for the state of Illinois. Its goal is to improve the lives of our nation's veterans and the communities they live in.
