West Dundee church hosts a special Hilltop Supper celebration June 13

First Congregational Church of Dundee is hosting its next Hilltop Community Supper on Tuesday, June 13.

In grateful appreciation to the families of Dundee Township, this month's supper is sponsored by the Mullen family in recognition of their 50th anniversary of the ownership of Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. The family has owned and operated Miller Funeral Home since May 1, 1973.

For the past 84 years, Miller Funeral Home, located at the corner of Fifth and Main streets in West Dundee, has been privileged to provide caring, compassionate and affordable funeral and cremation services to the families of the northern Fox Valley.

Miller Funeral Home was founded in 1939 by Frank L. Miller. To celebrate the funeral home's opening, Miller hosted an open house for the Dundee Township communities on Aug. 19-20, 1939. The funeral home was originally located at 112 N. Fifth St. until 1947 when he relocated it to its present location. Miller owned and operated the funeral home until his unexpected death in March of 1973. Currently, Miller Funeral Home is the oldest established business on Main Street in both East and West Dundee.

Since May 1, 1973, Miller Funeral Home has been locally owned and operated by the Mullen family. Since the death of his father on June 30, 2009, Tom Mullen Jr. and his mother, Irene, have been operating the funeral home. Both Tom and Irene are residents of Dundee Township. Tom has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 40 years. He, like his late father, is truly dedicated to funeral service and his profession. The Mullen family prides itself on continuing Frank Miller's and the Tom Mullen's tradition of providing ethical, caring, compassionate and affordable funeral and cremation services. Irene, Tom Jr. and the entire Mullen family are truly thankful and deeply appreciative of the trust and confidence that the hundreds of families have placed in their organization over the past 50 years and they look forward to many more years of service to the families of the Dundee Township communities.

The free supper will be a "drive-through" and "to-go" dinner offered from 5-6:30 p.m., or as long as meals last, via the parking lot driveway of the church, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee. There will be no dining in the church building. The suppers are open to any community member who would enjoy a warm, cooked meal.

The menu will feature roast pork with gravy, au gratin potatoes, honey carrots, applesauce, cornbread, and a chocolate chip cookie bar.

The supper will be run by Hilltop Community Suppers volunteers who will assemble and serve the meal. Dinners are offered at no cost, but freewill donations are gladly accepted to help sustain the meals and any additional contributions are accepted at any time.
