Elgin Riverside Club selects John P. Schroeder as 2023 Man of the Year

The Elgin Riverside Club honors John P. Schroeder as its 2023 Man of the Year.

Schroeder is a 1978 graduate of Elgin High School and attended Elgin Community College. He worked for many years at the City of Elgin as the assistant superintendent of buildings maintenance.

He is currently working for St. Edward Central Catholic High School as the facilities manager for the Elgin school. He resides in Elgin with his wife of 16 years, Jan. Together, they have five children and grandchildren. John is the son of James and Sharon Schroeder and has three brothers: James, Joseph and Jeffrey.

Schroeder has been a member of the Elgin Riverside Club since January 2004. He has held several club positions during that time: house committee member, trustee and, currently, vice president.

Over the years, he has been involved with many events and projects around the club: holiday raffles, spring cleanup, Fitchie Memorial Riverside Golf Outing, created the Snifters and Stogies Day, securing lifts and electrical for the parking lot lights, updating the sign at the entrance of the parking lot, and many other various projects to improve the club experience.

Outside of the Riverside Club, Schroeder served as past governor of the Elgin Moose Lodge, chaired the Moose Lodge building committee, was a Moose of the Year honoree, made and distributed nearly 600 face masks to the Elgin community during the pandemic and coordinated the Elgin United Civic Golf Club outing.

The Elgin Riverside Club will honor Schroeder at a banquet Saturday, June 17, at the Elgin Riverside Club, 21 Lincoln Ave. in Elgin.

The club welcomes all of Schroeder's friends and relatives to enjoy a 6 p.m. social hour, followed by a 7 p.m. dinner.

Cost of dinner is $25 with a choice of prime rib, chicken or vegetarian meal. Please sign up and pay at the club.
