Little Free Library now open in Round Lake Beach

On Tuesday, May 23, the school-age children at LaPetite Academy in Round Lake Beach gathered around a tiny structure in front of their school.

They were anticipating the ribbon cutting of a Little Free Library for all the children in the local area. The library was donated by Toni Levy, a retired LaPetite teacher, and her husband, Al, who installed it. The school's director, Tera Barnes, supported the effort.

Little Free Library information can be found at LittleFreeLibrary.org.

The idea is that children can take ownership of a book and may also choose to donate a book if they'd like.

Izzy Doll, a first grader at Thompson School, had the honors of cutting the red ribbon. Doll, a former LaPetite student, has read 649 books since fall.

The library is dedicated to the late Laverne Thompson, an area educator and also a volunteer for many years at Thompson School, named after her late husband William Thompson, former superintendent of Lake County schools.
