Team Hope Walk returns to Naperville May 21 for Huntington's Disease Awareness Month

As part of Huntington's Disease Awareness Month, the Huntington's Disease Society of America's Illinois Chapter will be hosting the Naperville Team Hope Walk at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Naperville Riverwalk Grand Pavilion.

"Karen Bennett and I are the co-chairs for our Naperville Team Hope Walk, and we are excited for the 19th annual Team Hope Walk that will be hosted in Naperville, Illinois," said Larry Haigh, co-chair. "We are looking forward to a great event that keeps with tradition of walking along the Naperville Riverwalk, our DJ will be back with music for our event, our hot dog lunch, and of course a great time with family and friends. During HD Awareness Month, we are hoping to spread awareness a little more during our time in Naperville together. If you are not able to join us in person you can still register and walk with us from wherever you may be."

Team Hope is HDSA's largest national grass-roots fundraising event, which takes place in over 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $22 million for Huntington's disease since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and communities walk together each year to support HDSA's mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington's disease and their families.

Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain that is described as having ALS, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's disease all at once. Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.
