The St. Charles Arts Council will host a Plein Air Event Saturday, May 27, in downtown St. Charles.

Plein Air painting is the act of painting outdoors -- "in the open air."

This event invites the public to witness artists completing a painting between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. somewhere within walking distance of the St. Charles Fine Art Show.

"This is the first time the Arts Council has sponsored a plein air event," stated Kathryn Hill, executive director of the St. Charles Arts Council. "We are excited to bring this kind of competition to our downtown and anxious to see the artwork that is born from it! Our hope is that some of the Fine Art Show patrons will enjoy witnessing artists creating art."

Artists must register at www.stcharlesartscouncil.org to participate. There is a $25 registration fee.

On Saturday, May 27, artists will get their blank canvas stamped at 10 a.m. at the St. Charles Arts Council tent located at the Fine Art Show. They will then choose a location to paint and must complete their painting by 4 p.m. at which time they turn the painting in at the St. Charles Arts Council tent.
