Local officials thank Advocate nurses during Nurses Week

As Advocate Health Care marks National Nurses Week, local elected officials joined in celebrating and thanking the nurses who serve in their districts.

Over the past week, state Senators John Curran, Donald DeWitte and Dan McConchie joined hospital and nursing leaders at Advocate Good Samaritan, Sherman and Good Shepherd hospitals to show their appreciation.

The events were just one way Advocate thanked the thousands of nurses who care for patients every day across the Chicago area. Advocate Health Care is proud to host more than 9,000 nurses and hosts eight Magnet designated hospitals - a recognition for excellence in nursing.

"We celebrate our nurses this week for the dedication, skill and excellence they demonstrate throughout the year," said Roseanne Niese, chief nursing officer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. "I'm proud to work alongside such a compassionate group of professionals, and grateful for the recognition from local legislators in the communities we serve."

"Our nurses are incredibly professional, skilled and compassionate in caring for their patients," added Susan Morby, chief nursing officer at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. "I'm grateful to our local officials for recognizing our nurses' consistent hard work and contribution to the health of the community."

"This week, we honor our nursing professionals and offer our gratitude for the many ways - big and small - that they make a difference each and every day," said Mary Roesch, chief nursing officer at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. "It's so important to have our community recognize the impact of our incredible nursing team and their tireless efforts to help all people live well."

At each of the hospitals, local officials and their teams greeted nurses, offering flowers and other treats, along with their gratitude.

"I have witnessed first-hand how nurses go above and beyond to help keep our communities safe and healthy," said Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove). "Our frontline health care workers have proven their commitment to duty against unique and staggering challenges. I'm thankful to be able to show this small gesture of appreciation that is much deserved by nurses who have worked incredibly hard during increasingly difficult times."

"These women and men are on the frontlines, ensuring people in our communities get the very best healthcare. This is just one small gesture to let them know their work is valued and does not go unnoticed," said Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles). "It is important to recognize their efforts."

"Nurses are essential to our healthcare system and deserve every ounce of gratitude and praise," added Sen. Dan McConchie, (R-Lake Zurich). "I am so grateful for the nurses I've encountered over the years during some very challenging times. They have such a tough job both physically and emotionally and this is the least we can do to thank such hard-working and selfless individuals. I am happy to be able to celebrate and acknowledge them in such a special way."
