Batavia High drama department puts on 5 one-act plays
Batavia High School's drama department is presenting two nights of one-act plays this week.
The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 27-28, at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre, 1250 W. Wilson St.
The one-act plays will be:
• "Controlling Interest" by Wayne S. Rawley. Four successful young "businessmen" gather for their weekly staff meeting. The issue: girls. Two young "businesswomen" arrive to negotiate: the boys may start liking them, but only on the girls' terms.
• "4 A.M." by Jonathan Dorf: What's it like to be awake when the rest of the world is asleep? Through a series of connected scenes and monologues, join memorable characters as they wonder…is there anybody out there?
• "The internet is Distract - Oh, Look a Kitten" by Ian McWethy. Micah has 20 minutes to finish research on her paper. Unfortunately, the web is a nefariously wacky place. A comedy about the rabbit hole of distraction we go down every time we go online.
• "The Other Room" by Ariadne Blayde. Austin: a brilliant teenage astronomer who happens to have autism. Lily: his popular classmate with an interest in astronomy. An encounter leads to a growing connection between them.
•"Good Business Sense" by Emmet Loverde. Tonight, a businessman is making the boardroom presentation of his life: a proposal of marriage to Claudia, who just wants flowers and violins, not charts and graphs.
Online tickets are $17; it is $3 additional through the box office.
