Naperville Park District thanks student volunteers from Districts 203 and 204

During National Volunteer Week, which is April 16-22, the Naperville Park District recognizes all of the volunteers who support its mission, with special thanks this year to student volunteers from Naperville Community Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 204.

Nearly 300 students have served as Naperville Park District volunteers from January 2022 until the present, assisting with special events, park cleanup, administrative tasks and special projects. The students lend support to the Park District, and in turn, gain experience and community service hours.

"We rely on middle school and high school students to support popular, free events such as Halloween Happening," said Executive Director Brad Wilson. "With their help, we can offer more interactive activities for kids. The students are enthusiastic and friendly, and enjoy the events as much as the participants do."

"Vocational students from Metea Valley High School stuff 4,000 plastic eggs with prize slips for the Flashlight Egg Hunt and other high school volunteers assist with hiding the eggs," said Becca Krzyszkowski, volunteer and events manager. "We greatly appreciate their help."

New volunteers are always welcome at the Naperville Park District.

Those interested may visit napervilleparks.org/volunteer to complete the volunteer application and view upcoming volunteer opportunities. Students who enjoy meeting and interacting with the public can assist with special events by greeting attendees, staffing tables or leading games.

Those who prefer to work behind the scenes can help with youth sports equipment preparation, egg stuffing, folding jerseys or preparing tickets for Magical Starlight Theatre.

Students with an interest in nature and the outdoors are invited to assist with park maintenance tasks such as mulching, litter picking or planting prairie seeds.

Additionally, Scouts are welcome to explore their ideas for an Eagle or Gold project in the parks.
