Jonas Friddle and Andrew Wilkins bring their fretless banjo and upright bass to Maple Street Concert March 18

On Saturday, March 18, Maple Street Concerts welcomes Jonas Friddle and Andrew Wilkins in their debut performance as part of its concert series.

The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Maple Street Chapel, 200 S. Main St. in Lombard.

The duo will perform a rare set of music on the fretless banjo and upright bass. The two perform often in larger lineups together, but fans know that for a decade Jonas and Andrew could be found in the back of the Grafton Pub (Chicago) experimenting with the fretless sounds.

Reimagined Old-Time tunes, loop pedals, and improvised originals were all fair game as they played just for the fun of it and for the folks having a late-night Guinness. Now they bring this same spirit to Maple Street Concerts.

"Every time Andrew and I get to present this show is a special event for us and we couldn't be happier to bring it to Maple Street," Jonas Friddle said.

"The songs and instrumentation of this duo are sure to please MSC's audience," said Melissa Dagenhart, booker and consultant for Maple Street Concerts. "We have many fans of the type of music that Friddle and Wilkins play. It's dynamic and soul-soothing. We are honored to present them."

Jonas Friddle is a singer, songwriter and old-time banjo player whose songs have received the John Lennon Songwriting Award, first place in the Great American Song Contest, and a nomination for Album of the Year in the Independent Music Awards. His tunes bear the marks of a musician who has done his time in pub sessions and square dance halls, and his writing is full of imagery, honesty, and humor. When playing with accomplished bassist Andrew Wilkins, the two explore the unusually beautiful and rhythmic combination of double bass and fretless banjo.

"(Friddle) deftly explores just about every nook and cranny of modern folk, from revivalist antique appropriation to protest songs to modern love songs. The immaculate arrangements would sell it, if his lithe voice hadn't already given it away. Amazing stuff." - Independent Clauses
