Seed library at St. Charles Public Library begins its ninth year

The weather outside may be cold, but it's not too early to begin planning your spring garden. The St. Charles Public Library's annual Seed Swap and Seed Library Kickoff will be Saturday, Feb. 18.

It will be 10 a.m. to noon in the library's Huntley Community Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Members of the community can stop by the library to "check out" more than 200 different heirloom seed varieties, free of charge, to grow and enjoy.

Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension will be on hand to answer any gardening-related questions.

All of the seeds available are heirloom or open-pollinated, meaning that once saved and planted again, they will grow into the same type of plant.

The library is one of the first public libraries in Illinois to lend heirloom seeds.

The seed library will be available anytime that the library is open. For more information, stop by the Research & Reading Desk, or call 630-584-0076, ext. 1, or visit www.scpld.org.
