Reach for the Stars Swim Meet Annual Meet Coming Soon to Libertyville High School

Earlier in the season, the Libertyville Stars held a groundbreaking swim meet featuring the first unified swim relays in the state of Illinois. The Libertyville Stars look to expand unified swimming at their Reach for the Stars 2023 swim meet at Libertyville High School on February 12th. Over 150 athletes from northern and northwestern Illinois will be joining the event, including Belvidere Park District, Evanston Special Recreation, FVSRA, Iddy Biddy Pool, NISRA, NWSRA, NWCSRA, SEASPAR, and Libertyville Stars Swim Club.

Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver is leading what he calls "the Inclusion Revolution," a global movement to break down barriers and end discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities. We fully support Shriver's push for unified sports and believe swimming is a perfect sport for unified teams. The Libertyville Stars has celebrated swimmers of all abilities since its inception in 2000. The Libertyville Stars is a unique team made up of nearly 30 dedicated peer coaches without disabilities, and 30+ Special Olympic swimmers. The Libertyville Stars hope to encourage more teams in the area with unified sports.

The Reach for the Stars 2023 swim meet will be at Libertyville High School pool from 9:15am until 12:00pm. There is no admission fee and spectators are welcome to view the meet from the 2nd-floor viewing area.
