Maine West teacher to be honored by CYSO at annual gala Feb. 25

The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) will honor Maine West orchestra teacher Daniella Valdez during the 2023 CYSO Gala.

The event, titled "Women in Music," will be held Feb. 25. It will honor female pioneers in music from composers, performers, conductors and teachers.

In addition to her role at Maine West, Valdez serves as the director of String Ensembles at CYSO. She has been a part of CYSO for more than 17 years.

Her career as a music educator and conductor has led to developing strong and successful orchestra programs. She is an active judge and clinician working with community schools, festivals and workshops.

She is an active member of the Illinois Educators Association and sits on the board for the Illinois American String Teachers Association Chapter.

She has given clinics at state and national conferences and has written several publications for music education journals.
