Elisa Lara appointed to Gail Borden Public Library board

Gail Borden Public Library officials recently announced that Elisa Lara has joined the Gail Borden Public Library District board of trustees.

Currently a community outreach nurse for VNA Health Care, Lara brings a wealth of experience and connections to the board.

With her health care work in screenings, presentations, health fairs and clinics, she has valuable knowledge and relationships throughout the city. She is a member of the Elgin Hispanic Network, City of Elgin Human Relations Commision and the Latino Treatment Center board. She has also served on the Coalition of Safe and Healthy Elgin Board and many more positive community organizations.

A graduate of Elgin Area School District U-46 schools, Elisa holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University.

Lara was appointed to fill the term of trustee John Kokoris who recently resigned. The term expires in April 2023.

"We are so pleased to welcome Elisa Lara," said Jean Bednar, president of the Gail Borden Public Library District board. "Of course, we were sorry to lose John who was an outstanding trustee, but we know that Elisa will bring so much to the board, the library and the community."

Carole Medal, CEO of Gail Borden Public Library District, said, "Elisa has been such an important part of our recent Pandemic Team efforts and our 2020 Census campaign, we are happy that she has agreed to serve. The library district will benefit greatly from her connections throughout the community."

"I am honored and privileged," Lara said. "I look forward to collaborating with the community and board to advocate for the library and literacy."
