Naperville Garden Club hosts 60th Cup of Cheer House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea

The Naperville Garden Club is hosting its 60th Cup of Cheer House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 1-2.

Tour four beautiful homes decorated for the holidays. Your ticket includes a map to all the homes. A bag will be provided to carry your shoes.

The following subdivisions will be featured: Cress Creek, East Highlands, Kinloch, and Silver Springs Estates.

It is the most eclectic group of homes the club has had the privilege of showcasing for several years. Homes vary in size from 2,885 square feet to 14,900 square feet.

Jump start your holiday decorating by getting started with this Naperville tradition from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Shop the Holiday Market for artisan items at the Cup of Cheer Market and Tea, which will be held at Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, 908 W. Jackson. The market is open to the public without a ticket on Friday, Dec 2, from noon to 4 p.m.

Each Cup of Cheer ticket holder receives a commemorative teacup and saucer at the Holiday Market and Tea. There are four choices for 2022 teacups; see photos of the commemorative teacups and saucers, as well as the teacups from 1973 to 2021, at www.napervillegardenclub.org.

Enjoy the tea with homemade cookies and receive a commemorative teacup and saucer or mug. There will be music by the Elmhurst Choral Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Proceeds from the event funds scholarships and club projects.

Online tickets continue until noon Wednesday, Nov. 30, for $57 for Thursday or $42 for Friday. Go to www.napervillegardenclub.org.

Local ticket vendors take only cash or checks at the following Naperville locations: Nona Jo's, 410 W. Fifth Ave.; The Growing Place, 25W471 Plank Road; and John Greene Realtors, 1311 S. Route 59. Day-of tickets are available on site at Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873.

In 1961, the club president conceived the idea of a Christmas Tea, where each member and guest was presented with a teacup and saucer as a memento of the party. Tickets sold for $1.25 and handmade decorations, wreaths and gift items were displayed and sold. This was such a successful event that plans commenced for an annual Christmas "Cup O' Cheer" as a fundraising event. Although the fundraiser has evolved over the years from Cup O' Cheer to today's Cup of Cheer, receiving a fine bone china teacup and saucer with the price of a ticket is a time honored and much looked forward to tradition. At least one member has collected a cup from every Cup of Cheer.
