Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrating 140 years

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin is inviting the community to an open house in celebration of their 140th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Zion Evangelical was established by Norwegian immigrants in 1882 and is one of the oldest continuous congregations on the west side of Elgin.

It continues to adapt and connect with its Elgin neighbors and community through its faith community.

Stop by for the open house and learn about the church's history and building, highlighting the Rose Window, Labyrinth, Peace Pole and Founder's Bell.

Learn about Zion Evangelical's many services to the community, through building use and volunteerism, i.e. Soup Kitchen, SouthWest Area Neighborhood, AA and Kid's Hope.

Guided tours and refreshments will be offered.

Join Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in celebrating its 140th anniversary at the open house from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, 330 Griswold St.

Sunday worship is at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. with Sunday school and adult education at 9:45 a.m. The second service also is livestreamed on Facebook Live.
