DAR Chapter to host Afternoon Tea

Members of Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), are pleased to announce "Afternoon Tea at The Garlands" taking place beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. For this event, attendees are invited to dress up in their finest attire, don a fancy hat, brew a cup of tea and enjoy a unique experience.

This year's program will feature author and historian, Leslie Goddard, who will present a program entitled, "Remembering Marshall Field's." From 1852 until 2006, Marshall Field and Company reigned as Chicago's grandest department store. Its decades-long success was based on the famous line, "give the lady what she wants."

Goddard will cover the history of the Walnut Room, the legendary State Street window displays, and, of course, Frango Mints. Her presentation is based on her book, "Remembering Marshall Field's," from Arcadia Publishing. The book will be available for sale and the author will be available to autograph copies.

Following the presentation, the chapter will hold a Tea Basket Drawing.

"All funds raised will enable the chapter to continue its support of education, historic preservation, patriotism, and conservation," explained Joyce Wright, Signal Hill Chapter regent.

The Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, was founded in Barrington, in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women's service organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Since its founding in 1890, more than one million women have joined as members. NSDAR opens its membership to any woman, aged 18 and older, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.
