Metea Valley High School theater presents 'Jack and the Magic Beans' Oct. 7-9

"Jack and the Magic Beans" will kick off its 2022-23 Metea Valley High School theater season with its first ever children's show.

It will be performed over one weekend at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8-9, at 1801 N. Eola Road in Aurora.

Tickets are $10 or $5 for students/seniors and can be purchased online at meteatheater.org or at the door 30 minutes before curtain call.

"We are excited to start a brand new tradition for our students and community with our very first children's show in our Black Box Theater," said director Derek Sturn. "This entertaining version of Jack and the Beanstalk returns to its original English source, 'The History of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean'."

It has it all: A dancing cow, a mysterious magic bean-seller, a running giant chicken, the singing and dancing harp, a frazzled mother, the food hungry Giant. There are also zany villagers and a silly kitchen staff at the Giant's castle. When Jack and his family are out of money, food, and luck, Jack decides to sell the cow for magic beans; only then does the fun really begin! When the Giant has locked up the kingdom's Queen, it's up to Jack to go up the beanstalk and into the castle where he not only fights Gogmagog but a spiteful Troll as well. Can Jack rescue the Queen, save his family's farm, and defeat the greedy Giant? Come find out!

"Jack and the Magic Beans" will be performed by a talented cast of 22 actors and seven tech students, in their very own black box theater.

Metea Valley Theater is excited to return with another season. This year, the motto is "Bringing Our Stories to Life." Starting with the excitement of "Jack and His Magic Beans," the true story of "Radium Girls" on Nov. 3-6; the "Winter Scenes," student-directed one-act shows, on Jan. 26-28; and then the spring musical bringing to life the touchingly tall tale that is "Big Fish," this year's season truly speaks to our goal of telling these stories.

"While some of these stories send our imaginations on wonderful adventures, others remind us of how important life is, and how each moment, each choice, can have innumerable consequences that can change our life forever," said Matt Wolski, program director. "I can't wait to work on these new challenges with our great staff and talented students. We hope to see you all at our wonderful productions."
