Local Leagues to host Oct. 5 candidate forum for U.S. 14th Congressional District

Voters of the newly configured Illinois 14th Congressional District are invited to attend an online candidate forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. It is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Naperville, in partnership with the League of Women Voters Aurora Area and the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County.

Candidates Republican Scott Gryder and Democrat Lauren Underwood have accepted the invitation to attend.

The public forum is free, but guests must register in advance for the Zoom link via lwvnaperville.org/event/illinois-14th-congressional-district-candidate-forum/.

Following registration, guests will be able to save event information to their digital calendar.

The forum will be recorded and available online afterward at the Naperville League's YouTube channel.

Voters are invited to submit questions to candidates by emailing them to lwvnaperville@gmail.com no later than 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.

Visit lwvnaperville.org for more information and/or join the organization. All persons age 16 or older are welcome to become members of the League of Women Voters.

Unlike a debate, a forum involves a neutral trained moderator from outside the district who presents questions to candidates for their live responses.

The League of Women Voters, founded in 1920, envisions a democracy where every individual has a desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. The League believes in the power of citizens to create a more perfect democracy and has been conducting forums as part of its mission of voter education for decades. The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to its members and the public.

The League of Women Voters encourages all voters to mark their calendars for Nov. 8 as a reminder to vote.
