Cardinal Drive Park Grand Opening Set for Sept. 27

Rolling Meadows Park District is ready to debut its highly anticipated new playground at Cardinal Drive Park!

A Grand Opening Celebration is scheduled Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30pm-dusk at the park, 2708 Cardinal Drive. The event will include free hot dogs and chips, dessert and a chance to play on and explore the new equipment. Each attendee will also receive a free Cardinal Drive Park collectible sticker from the RM Parks Sticker Series to commemorate the occasion, while supplies last.

Installed atop a soft, resilient surface of lush green turf, the playground boasts a variety of inclusive equipment, including a music area, climbing apparatus, a modern teeter-totter style quad, slides, ramps and several attractions designed to inspire creativity, discovery and open-ended play. Other features include two dedicated pickleball courts where the public can enjoy this increasingly popular sport.

A majority of the work was done in-house by the Park District's Parks Department. The project included a complete renovation of the park, originally constructed in 1961 and was made possible by a $312,600 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

"We know the community has been looking forward to the completion of this project since it was announced and we are ecstatic to host this Grand Opening," said Executive Director Kevin Romejko. "This state-of-the-art playground promotes inclusivity, active fun and remarkable ways for children of all ages to Play, Learn and Grow while making countless memories."

Romejko said he is also excited about the new lighted outdoor pickleball courts installed as part of the renovation.

"Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that offers a way to enjoy low-impact exercise, socialization and friendly competition," Romejko said. "Plus, it's incredibly fun and we love providing new places and opportunities for the community to connect and play!"
