Elgin Donor Club's annual book review luncheon returns Sept. 22

The Donor Club of Elgin is excited to announce the return of their annual book review luncheon, after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

It will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road.

Renowned book reviewer Jenny Riddle will present a dramatization, "We Will Survive: Emily Post, The Bag Lady Papers, and You Look Fine, Really!"

She will portray three very different women.

As Emily Post, Riddle will set you straight on which fork to use first at a formal dinner, but you will be surprised at some of Emily's advice in Laura Claridge's biography "Emily Post: Mistress of American Manners." In the second short review, you'll meet Alexandra Penney whose book "The Bag Lady Papers," shows what one person suffered in the Madoff "rip-off" scandal. Finally, Riddle will put a smile on your face as she dramatizes Christie Mellor's book, "You Look Fine, Really." She quickly takes you through the minefield of hilarious problems today's women must cope with.

Tickets for the luncheon are $50 and are available through club members.

The doors will open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at noon.

Guests will be able to purchase homemade cookies and candy, and gently used books. Tickets for raffle baskets will also be available.

All proceeds are donated to local charities that benefit area residents.

The Donor Club has been an active philanthropic club since 1913. It donates to several organizations such as the Community Crisis Center, Boys and Girls Club of Elgin, and the Interfaith Food Pantry among others.
