Read all about it: Cricket Theatre to present 'Newsies'

Cricket Theatre's summer presentation of "Disney's Newsies Jr." will be at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 21 and 22, at Lake Zurich Performing Art Center, 300 Church St., Lake Zurich.

The musical, which the children have been working hard on this summer, is based on the real life 1899 Newsboys Strike. On the streets of New York, Jack Kelly and the other news kids make a meager living selling newspapers. They dream of something better.

After huge publishing company increases newspaper prices, Jack and the newsies organize a revolution against the greedy publisher, Mr. Pulitzer. The children seize the day and learn the power of the "little guy."

Dan Euker and Erin Adams, the play directors, said, "'Newsies' is such a fun, high energy show, and putting it together has been a blast for both us and the cast. We're looking forward to bringing it to life."

Tickets are available at www.crickettheatre.org/tickets or at the door.

Cricket Theatre Company, founded in 2013, is a nonprofit 5013c organization whose purpose is to create accessible performing arts education, experiences, and opportunities for youth. The goal is to establish a relationship with the community through theater.
